Province Announces Home Renovation Savings Program
The Province of Ontario has announced it is creating the Home Renovation Savings Program, to help homeowners improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
The Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP) will offer rebates of up to 30 per cent for home energy efficiency renovations and improvements, including new windows, doors, insulation, air sealing, smart thermostats, air-source heat pumps, rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems.
Details of the program are currently being worked out, and should be available when the program launches on January 28, 2025.
If it works like the now discontinued Greener Home Rebate, a homeowner would get an initial assessment to determine current energy efficiency levels, complete the upgrades, have a post-renovation audit, and then receive the rebate from the government.
The Greener Homes Rebate was a popular program with our clients, and motivated homeowners to go beyond doing a minimum renovation and consider better insulation & windows for their home. This not only reduced their energy costs, but also increased the comfort level of the home. We also completed several air source heat pump installations, reducing their reliance on gas, or converting them entirely to electric.
Preliminary details on the program suggest the following rebates:
- Home energy assessment ($600)
- Windows/Doors ($100 each)
- Insulation (up to $8,900)
- Air Sealing (up to $250)
- Air Source Heat Pump (up to $7,500)
- Solar panels & battery storage ($10,000)
